Eileen Hopkins
Special Advisor, Autism Policy and Practice
Eileen Hopkins has worked in the field of autism for over thirty years, beginning in education and development with a regional society for autism. She moved to the National Autistic Society in 1990.There she worked as Director of Development, establishing programmes with local authorities and developing a wide range of services for people with autism and their families. The division was responsible for training and conferences, regional development, membership and non bricks and mortar services. Latterly she was also responsible for a large school and many adult services.
Eileen is a member of a WHO expert group on autism, currently involved in setting a research agenda for developmental disorder. She is also a member of the External Reference Group for the development of the Adult Autism Strategy and Chairs the Social Inclusion group.
She is Consultant to the Dubai Autism Centre, The Saudi Autistic Society, The Prince Salmaan Centre for Disability Research and the National Society for Autism in Nigeria. In addition Eileen is a non-exec Director of the Zurich Community Trust
Eileen joined Autistica in July 2006.
