A RARE TREAT TO BOOST AUTISM RESEARCH

Sunday, 6th April 2008 and here in Oxfordshire, we woke up to nearly 3” of snow!  It was just like Christmas!

The trees looked beautiful heavily laden down with snow as we drove down to Stockbridge then gradually the snow disappeared and the sun came out.  The weather at The Longstock Water Garden was lovely when we got there – a little windy but bright and sunny with patches of blue sky.  Freezing cold. 

The gardeners told us that this time last year this time it poured with rain and there were 5 cars in the car park.  So we were delighted that well over 100 people braved the cold to support us and visit the garden.  The blossom trees were beautiful and there were lots of plants just bursting into colour.  It was gorgeous and without lots of people, the Water Garden seemed very peaceful and calm.  There were lots of daffodils in bloom on the pretty walk up to the Nursery where almost everyone went for tea and cakes and the car park looked especially beautiful with great big cherry blossom trees! 

Our thanks to all of our volunteers, without whom it would not have happened – Hilary Gilfoy, Victoria Sanvitale and her sister Caroline, John Coombes and his wife Cynthia, Nicole and fiancée Steve also Steve’s friend Andy.  Thank you to each and every one for their wonderful support and help.

We do believe that in addition to raising money towards autism research, the event has been important for raising awareness not just within the community but within John Lewis too.  Our thanks go to the John Lewis Partnership for their support. We are delighted to have raised just over £622.00
