LUNCH - CLIVEDEN HOUSE 1 JULY 2008

Lady Astor of Hever shared entertaining and illuminating family stories about the Astor family and Cliveden recently, when she was guest speaker at this stylish gathering at the beautiful country house hotel in Taplow.  Over 50 elegantly-dressed ladies and gentlemen gathered to lunch in style and engage in some serious charity fundraising.  There was a champagne reception on the Parterre overlooking Cliveden’s breathtaking and magnificent formal gardens and parkland followed by a delicious lunch from acclaimed Michelin kitchens.  Guests then enjoyed listening to Lady Astor’s amusing talk as well as her own very personal experience of bringing up her own daughter, Olivia who has autism.  Lady Astor wrote about Olivia in her book in 2006, ‘Loving Olivia, Bringing up my Autistic Daughter’.

A lively auction presided over by the charming Nick Mellors from Newark Antiques, Nottingham followed in which a Nicole Farhi coat and a personally guided tour of Royal Greenwich were hotly contested over.

Guests had a wonderful time and raised a gargantum £14K (and counting) towards the latest research into the UK-wide British Autism Study of Infant Siblings, identifying the first signs of autism, earlier diagnosis and intervention as well as the Brain Development Research Programme.

A huge thank you to all who attended.
