THE WALK FOR AUTISM RESEARCH 2007 - SUNDAY 13 MAY 2007
Just under £26K+ RAISED FOR AUTISM CHARITY AT ALNWICK GARDEN
Press release date: 6 June 2007- £19.5k ... and counting
The weather might have been dreadful, but it didn't deter more than 600 walkers from all over the North-East taking part in the first-ever Walk for Autism Research at The Alnwick Garden in May. And the results of their decidedly damp efforts: just under £26,000 in sponsorship money!
Lynn Hart, Head of Events for the organisers, Autism Speaks, says, "We are a relatively young, national charity funding medical research into the causes of autism and so this event - whilst we are thrilled at the money it raised - was as much about telling people we exist and how they can support us in the future. We seem to have struck a chord with both the autism community and those serving it and we were delighted by the welcome we received."
It seems the O’Hare family (pictured) would agree that the many creative, musical and self-help activities laid on in addition to the Walk meant that a good day was indeed had by all!
