THE ALNWICK GARDEN WALK - SUNDAY 13 MAY 2007
Best foot forward for autism research in the North-East
30 May 2007
Autism Speaks, the UK's only charity solely funding research into the causes of autism, moved into The Alnwick Garden in Northumberland for a day's Walk for Autism Research in May.
The event, which raised nearly £17,000 from 600+ walkers, was the charity's first venture in the North-East following previous walks elsewhere in the UK which mobilise families affected by autism, organisations and service-suppliers to have a fun day out in a good cause.
Says Lynn Hart, Head of Events and Community Fundraising for Autism Speaks, "The far North-East isn't the most obvious place for a national charity (based in Oxfordshire) to raise its profile, but we seem to have struck a chord with both the autism community and those serving it and we were thrilled by the welcome we received."
