Professor Margaret (Maggie) Snowling

Professor Margaret Snowling holds a personal chair in the Department of Psychology at the University of York. Professor Snowling graduated from the University of Bristol and completed her PhD studies at the University of London.  Professor Snowling has served as Professor of Psychology and Head of Department at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Principal and Head of Department at the National Hospital's College of Speech Sciences, London, Vice President of the British Dyslexia Association, Honorary Member of the Dyslexia Institute Guild 1997, President of the Psychology section of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, President of the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading. Her honours include Recipient of the Marion Welchman International Conference Award, British Psychological Society Presidents Award,  Samuel Torrey Orton Award from the International Dyslexia Association, Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) Goldsmith’s College, University of London. Professor Snowling is also elected Fellow of the British Academy and the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Professor Snowling directs a research group in cognitive development and developmental disorders and her research focuses on the development of reading and spelling, specific reading difficulties (dyslexia), developmental disorders of speech and language, reading and language interventions.
